These two relief prints are a part of a series I titled “Flat Solace”, The building that you see in this two similar artworks is a HDB flat that I live in. When I was in the process of conceptualising this artwork, I imagined the unbothered or peaceful feeling that I get when I do the things that I enjoy- generally work that induces creativity - and thought of a colour that I felt convey that feeling best. Thus the reason I chose pink chin collè paper to go over the Linoleum plate. The other version, without the coloured papers, I wanted to show the opposite of the previous mentioned feeling. When I am not doing things that stimulates creativity- or productive at least - , eventually I grow lifeless and dark. I used the title “Flat Solace” as a double entendre for the two states of mind when I am at home.
